Downtown Jewish Center Chabad From Super Bowl to Super Jew Guest Speaker Alan Veingrad $36 adult, $18 child • Sponsors $100 RSVP online at www.downtownjewish.com or call 954-667-8000 Alan (Shlomo) Veingrad’s story is truly inspiring. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Miami, he grew to be 6' 5" and, with a nearly obsessive mind-set, trained to become nearly 300 pounds of solid muscle and was a football All-American at East Texas State University, the only Jew on campus. He turned pro and played for seven seasons from 1986-1992 as an offensive lineman in 86 games for two of the greatest teams in NFL history: the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys, with whom he won Super Bowl XXVII alongside teammates Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, and Emmitt Smith, just to name a few luminaries, and again was the only Jew. Growing up, he had always sought ways to become a better person, as well as a better athlete, but it wasn’t until after retirement that he found meaning in life-after-football through becoming a Torah-observant Jew. An accomplished speaker, Alan travels the country inspiring young and old as he relates his personal spiritual journey with humor and poignancy, which includes such positive messages as, “Everything I learned in football can be applied to Yiddishkeit” and “Beyond fame and fortune: material success isn’t enough.” |
